The FARM Institute with Melinda Rabbit DeFeo

Local food production shows us how all of the things on the farm, — people, animals, plants, dirt, micro-organism, sun and air — are all interconnected.

A recent walk around The FARM Institute with Melinda Rabbit DeFeo is an exploration of how farming, and the food we eat, is a very natural web of things — that very much includes us.

Pigs root the corn stalks, tilling back into the soil important nutrients. Sheep graze and fertilize the pasture. Chickens fertilize, eat grubs, prune the grass and keep pests under control. The cows turn healthy pasture into rich, sweet, loamy dirt.

It's all not only connected, but related — right onto the our plates at dinner.
