House and Home

Until quite recently housing was a growth industry here on Martha's Vineyard. But boom turned to bust last year, and the cycle of scramble set in again.
The turn of events not only effected those, who without a home of their own "shuffle" from home to home from summer to winter, but events also strangled construction jobs — even architects are losing their homes...

In response, there is a growing attention to long-term affordability of houses being built right now — that these houses contribute to the ongoing livelihood of owners by keeping energy costs down. So here on this page is information on both the history of the affordable housing movement on Martha's Vineyard, and what people are doing to innovate and keep housing and houses affordable well into the future.

IHT and Permanent Affordability

In particular that the long-term cost of housing goes down as energy efficiency is built in to home design and construction.
